Medical Spanish

Academia Buenos Aires offers its students a full program in medical Spanish, allowing medical students, physicians, medical interpreters and other health professionals to improve or expand their use of the Spanish language in the specific field of health. The program has a strong practical orientation. It provides our students with the linguistic skill set to maximize their chances in an increasingly demanding job market and to improve physician-patient interactions with Spanish-speaking patients.

The program has been designed by Academia Buenos Aires with the following objectives for the students:

1. to develop the necessary skills to communicate with colleagues and patients in interviews, appointments, patient instructions, recommendations and professional conferences.
2. to learn the appropriate medical terms and structures used in the daily life of a physician and medical assistance in general.
3. to understand, analyze and interpret different oral and written discourses and discursive styles. For example: case studies, clinical records, essays, scientific articles for journals, etc.
4. to write clinical reports, instructions, personal letters, formal letters. To ask for specialized information, write or answer queries, produce opinion pieces etc using medical vocabulary.

Having prior knowledge of the Spanish language is not a requisite for taking part in this program. You can participate on any of the levels (A1-C2) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The program includes two weeks of medical shadowing in a clinic in Buenos Aires.
